FDIC’s Consumer News on Overdraft and Account Fees

On 12/10/21, the FDIC issued its December Consumer News which centered on ways and options to minimize or avoid overdraft and account fees. The article, written as a resource for consumers, provides information on the different deposit account fees that banks usually charge.

The article also includes guidance on selecting a bank account through comparison and choosing only the services that the consumer need. Specifically, the article talks about the different types of deposit account fees a consumer should be aware of, including:

  • Overdraft fees;

  • NSF fees;

  • Monthly maintenance fees;

  • Minimum balance fees; and

  • ATM fees.
