Senate Votes to Overturn CFPB’s Overdraft Lending Final Rule

On March 28, 2025, the ABA Banking Journal reported that Senate has voted in favor of a resolution to overturn the CFPB’s limit on overdraft fees. On December 12, 2024, the CFPB  amended Regulations E and Z to update rules for overdraft credit offered by very large banks.

The Senate voted 52-48, moving the overdraft fee limit a step closer to repeal. The resolution pursuant to the Congressional Review Act is now moving to the House, where the Financial Services Committee approved a companion bill with a vote of 30-19.
